Let's get one thing straight: I am not an exciting person. I clean my house for fun. When my husband is at work, I eat cereal for dinner. I am either working, thinking about work, dreaming about work, or working. Except, of course, on the weekend when I go to bed at 8 PM with the TV still on and drooling on my Kindle and clutching a bottle of ZzzQuil in the other hand. This may or may not be the reason that I am now apparently blogging on an annual basis.
The Christmas season is one of the only opportunities for significant fanfare and celebration in this sad state called being a grown-up. It's the age where you ask for gifts like 'socks' or 'more of those free charity return address labels' and are genuinely overjoyed when you receive them. I've decided that this year, as a Christmas gift to myself (and a last-ditch effort to keep my anxiety levels at bay) I am going to look for every chance to recognize the little things that I'm thankful for or that make me happy.
Just a few to get started and prove I'm serious about this:
I love it when I think I'm out of Ranch dressing and I buy more and then I realize my husband already bought more and now we have a whole lot of Ranch dressing.
I am SO PUMPED that they are making a Boy Meets World sequel and I am even more PUMPED at how many others are just as stoked as I am--- it restores my faith in humanity and keeps me from weeping openly whenever I see boys wearing neon pants or four-year-olds with iPhones.
I am thankful for my fake Christmas tree that I can decorate and put presents under and that won't make me break out into hives. I'm also thankful for the smell of real Christmas trees, which I will sniff gratuitously when at other people's houses. And then break out into hives.
I enjoy the internet and the sneaky way it somehow makes mundane things seem more important than paying bills and basic human interaction.
And if you know me at all, you know that my most favorite (besides family, and love, and food, and a home and yadda yadda)
...the sweet scent of a freshly stocked office supply store!

Merry Christmas, y'all.
